THE SITUATION:
CMI was experiencing extremely high oil contamination levels on their Harris Baler Recycling Machines. The vane pumps in the baler are extremely sensitive to contamination so CMI needed a solution.
Oil analysis showed:
- Varnish was increasing
- Wear metals were present in the oil
- Increasing TAN levels
Analysis showed contamination levels exceeded the manufacturer’s acceptable limits.
With CMI facing extreme contamination levels, it was no time to turn to second best.
THE SOLUTION:
Due to the extremely high flow rate in the machine as well as the high rate of ingression of contamination, we decided to use a larger housing, an SS305-2R with a flow rate of 28 L/min combined with our M-series elements.
This ensured we had enough dirt loading capacity without changing elements too frequently and had enough flow to account for the high flow rate of the machine. The Triple R unit’s larger surface area was required to accommodate the baler’s high flow rate.
The SS305-2R was hooked up to draw oil from the bottom of the tank and then return at the top of the opposite end of the tank. This ensured we could clean the entire tank evenly.
Achieved an average reduction in contamination levels of 99.80%
THE RESULTS:
After only one week, oil analysis results showed the Triple R system had reduced contamination levels well below the manufacturer’s recommended limits.
- ISO Before: 21/20/18
- ISO After: 16/12/8
- Manufacturer’s Specification: 19/17/14
